Our Spiritual Leader

The eldest of six, Pastor Davis was born in Houston, Texas to Anglas and Aline Davis. Raised in the McNair community of Baytown, 12 year old Frank Davis was baptized and became a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. As a very active young member, he participated as a Junior Usher, Junior Deacon and a member of the Junior Choir.

As many young men during the Viet Nam era, Pastor Davis was drafted in the United States Army. After serving 2 years including Viet Nam, GOD's grace paved a way for Pastor back to Texas.

He began his career at Amoco Oil Company in Texas City as an operator(4 years), then a pipe fitter trainer(2 years), and advanced to the position of Supervisor of Mechanical Training before retiring after a long 35 year career.

Blessings continued because of his obedience to GOD and in 1967, Pastor found a "good thing" as he married Shirley Heron which later bore them two sons; Frank James. and Fermin Deon Davis. His family continues to grow and now includes two daughters in laws, seven grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.

1973 brought about a major change, known and unknown at the time, in the lives of many folk who already knew or would come to know Frank Davis. Pastor accepted his call to ministry in 1973 under the Pastorship of Reverend  D. N. Benford at the Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church in Texas City. He then attended Conroe Bible College in Conroe, Texas and received a Bachelor of Theology. His pastoral journey began as an interim in Galveston for a short period before being called to Pastor Brownwood Baptist in Montgomery, Texas in 1976. An unprecedent 17 years as Pastor of New Testament Missionary  Baptist Church in McNair preceded his current unparalleled, devoted, GOD sent Pastorship at Mt Rose Missionary Baptist Church since October 1999.

A Look Back...

MT. ROSE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH HISTORY

Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church had its humble beginnings outside under a grapevine arbor with ten (10) members. Under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Brown, the assembly was later blessed to use a local hall for worship service.

Between 1920 and 1923 Mt. Rose was chartered, making it the first black Baptist church in Goose Creek. The first church building was erected during this period under the direction and guidance of Pastor Foots, Pastor Adams, Sam Wilson, and deacons of the church. Mt. Rose currently stands in the exact location on which the first church building was erected. This area was swamp land and faithful members had to trudge through the mud when it rained to get to service.

Pastor J. M. Martin was pastor in the early 1930s. Pastor Martin started the paying of dues and paying of the preacher.

Pastor W. C. Johnson was pastor in the late 1930s.

Pastor Calvin Scott was pastor in the early 1940s. Pastor Scott remodeled the entrance of the church.

Not only is Mt. Rose deemed the first Black Baptist Church in Goose Creek, it exists as a historical landmark by still standing tall in the exact location since its inception. History also tells us this facility was also used as an educational institution and was named Goose Creek Colored School until the 1950s. The original building had a bell tower with a bell that rang during school and whenever someone died in the community.

Pastor R L Robinson was shepherd of Mt. Rose from the 1940s to 1950s. In 1954 the lot next to the church was purchased, a parsonage was added, and the church structure was bricked. Under Pastor Robinson's leadership the church began to experience tremendous growth. It is noted that during his tenure, Mt. Rose was the first Black church to broadcast worship service on the local radio station {or a couple of years.

Pastor W. H. Smith was pastor in the late 1950s. Pastor Smith started remodeling the front of the church bricks and stone.

In 1960 Pastor E H. Dominique completed the job of bricking the church. He is fondly remembered as a teaching pastor; caring deeply for the members; and is credited {or bringing positive improvements to the church, as well as the addition of the ell section to the church structure. In 1975 he resigned as pastor due to failing health.

In 1975 Rev. D. Reed became the next pastor of Mt. Rose. The vestibule in front of the church was added; the parsonage was renovated into a fellowship hall; and two buses were purchased.

On July 6, 1980 Pastor Nathaniel Davis was installed as pastor. In 1985, the choir stand and pulpit areas were renovated and the baby grand piano was purchased.

In 1992 Pastor Steven Richard became the pastor of Mt. Rose. In 1996 under the leadership of Pastor Richard, the Nehemiah Project was established as a special fund that brought forth a new pulpit, carpeting, refurbished pews, renovated bathrooms, and a wheelchair ramp with access to the sanctuary. Pastor Richard served Mt. Rose until 1999.

On September 29, 1999, GOD blessed Mt. Rose with our present spiritual leader, Pastor Frank Davis. With the blessings of GOD many improvements have been made to the church structure that consist of remodeling the pulpit and choir stand, purchasing pulpit furniture, the remodeling of the pastor's and secretary's offices, a conference room was constructed, the upstairs classrooms were remodeled, as well as the building of the E. H. Dominique Fellowship Hall, the paved parking lot, and the remodeling of our sanctuary. In 2015, the lot directly in front of the sanctuary was purchased with future plans of becoming another paved parking lot which was completed in 2020.

Under the leadership of Pastor Davis, Mt. Rose's vision for the future continues as we begin another year. We have only just begun the work that GOD has set forth for us and we should continue to pray that we will strive to move upward in all of our endeavors. Together on one accord, the Mt. Rose family will succeed in all that we do. Because at Mt. Rose our motto is, "It's not about us, it's all about GOD."
